Interview
Simon Halsey on Schubert, Mahler, Debussy and Claudio Abbado Claudio Abbado conducts Schubert, Debussy and Mahler
In this concert, Claudio Abbado conducted works by composers with whom he was closely associated, including Schubert’s Rosamunde music, which captivates with its songlike simplicity and dreamy atmosphere. Much more expansive but equally delicate is Debussy’s La Mer, while Gustav Mahler strikes a folksy, down-to-earth note in his Wunderhorn songs. The vocal soloist is Angelika Kirchschlager.
