Olga Neuwirth’s humorous and demonic soundscapes have already caused a sensation several times in Philharmoniker concerts, such as her “Ballet mécanomorphe” [Aello], which clearly references Bach: a musical dance complete with typewriter and solo flute, full of Baroque-like phrases and quotations. [Keyframes for a Hippogriff], “a wander through many different emotional states” (Neuwirth), was commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation together with the New York Philharmonic and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, which granted women the right to vote in 1920.
