David Robertson

The conductor, composer and musical visionary David Robertson has long been well-known in the USA. A former Boulez student, who has made an international name for himself primarily as an interpreter of contemporary music and as an original programme designer, Robertson made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2002. He compares great musical ideas to trapped butterflies that are still beautiful but can no longer fly after being kept in a display case by a collector: “I think my job as an interpreter is to take all the incredible butterflies that are stuck on the page and allow them to start flying around.”
