Dalia Stasevska
The New York Times named Dalia Stasevska one of the Breakout Stars of 2023 – along with eight artists who “broke away from the pack this year, delighting us and making us think”. In the same year, she became the first woman in the history of the concert series to open the BBC Proms. Stasevska, who was born in Kyiv and raised in Finland, describes herself as “Finnish with a Ukrainian heart”. She first studied violin and viola before switching to conducting, which she studied under Jorma Panula and Leif Segerstam. In 2019, she was appointed principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and in 2020 she was elected chief conductor of Symphonia Lahti. Dalia Stasevska has received the Royal Philharmonic Society’s British Conductor Award and the BBC Music Society’s Personality of the Year Award, among other honours.
