Isabelle Faust is one of the world’s leading violinists: “Her sound has passion, it has bite and it electrifies,” according to the [New York Times], “but it also has a disarming warmth and sweetness that allows the music’s hidden lyricism to become apparent.” Isabelle Faust made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in January 2009 as the soloist in Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in D minor.
After training under Christoph Poppen and Dénes Zsigmondy, Isabelle Faust won the prestigious Leopold Mozart Competition in Augsburg and the Premio Paganini in Genoa. Soon after, she made guest appearances with major orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo. Isabelle Faust has worked closely with conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Frans Brüggen, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding, Philippe Herreweghe, Andris Nelsons and Robin Ticciati. She has also performed regularly with Claudio Abbado, with whom she recorded the Beethoven and Berg violin concertos and received the Diapason d’Or, the Echo Klassik and the Gramophone Award. Isabelle Faust has shown great commitment to the performance of contemporary music, including premieres of works by Peter Eötvös, Brett Dean and Ondřej Adámek. With her long-standing chamber music partner, the pianist Alexander Melnikov, she has recorded sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms, among others.
