Albrecht Mayer: a portrait
Oboist Albrecht Mayer is not only one of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s familiar faces, but also regularly appears in the classical music charts as a solo performer. This film portrait gives you the opportunity to get to know the artist. He explains, for example, why the oboe is one of the most challenging and physically demanding instruments of all, and why he never wanted to play anything else.
Albrecht Mayer has been principal oboist with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 1992; but he is also known throughout the music world as one of the outstanding representatives of his instrument. His numerous recordings regularly appear not only in the classical but also in the pop music charts. The musician plays on an oboe, the Albrecht-Mayer model, developed by himself and the instrument maker Ludwig Frank.
