This season, it was time to say goodbye to Sir Simon Rattle as chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In addition to many joint favourite works, his era drew to a close with Mahler’s Sixth Symphony with which Rattle had made his debut with the orchestra in 1987.
