Adam Fischer

Chef d’orchestre

In February 2018, Adam Fischer made his debut on the podium of the Berliner Philharmoniker – and was met with prolonged applause from the audience. The press also praised him in the highest terms: Fischer’s interpretation of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony “From the New World” was “hard to resist”, according to [Der Tagesspiegel].

Adam Fischer studied composition and conducting in his home town of Budapest and continued his education at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts in the master class of the legendary Hans Swarowsky. After initial engagements in Helsinki, Karlsruhe and at Bayerische Staatsoper, his career led him via Freiburg, Kassel and Mannheim back to Budapest, where he has directed the Wagner Days since 2006. From 2007 to 2010 he was also artistic director of Hungarian State Opera. As long ago as 1987, Adam Fischer founded the Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra with musicians from Austria and Hungary, with whom he set new standards in Haydn performance, and presented a recording of all 104 of the composer’s symphonies, which has won many awards. Fischer regularly conducts at leading opera houses and festivals in Europe and the USA – in Bayreuth, where he was voted Conductor of the Year by [Opernwelt] magazine for his sensational Ring debut in 2001, at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala in Milan, Wiener Staatsoper and the Salzburg Festival. In addition to his work with leading international orchestras, Fischer has been principal conductor of the Danish National Chamber Orchestra since 1998, with whom he has recorded the complete Mozart and Beethoven symphonies. He is also principal conductor of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, with whom he has made recordings of Mahler symphonies that received “Best recordings of the Year” awards from the BBC Music Magazine Award 2019 and Opus Klassik 2019.
