Joana Mallwitz, who was voted Conductor of the Year in the 2019 critics’ poll conducted by the specialist magazine Opernwelt, has been in the top league of her profession since her acclaimed Salzburg debut in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. At Theater Erfurt, she was the youngest female general music director in Europe. She is well known to Berlin audiences as chief conductor of the Konzerthausorchester. Her goal when she takes to the conductor’s desk is to engage and move the audience from the very first note – through the “magical moment” of the shared concert experience that leaves everyone inspired.
