Joyce DiDonato rose to the top of the international singing elite within just a few years with a “divine” voice ([The Times]), technical brilliance and breathtaking stage presence.
The mezzo-soprano studied at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and continued her training in programmes for young artists at the opera houses in San Francisco, Houston and Santa Fe. A stellar career followed which has since taken her to the greatest opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the state opera houses in Munich and Vienna, as well as to renowned festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and the BBC Proms. The singer’s core repertoire includes roles by Handel and Mozart as well as Rossini’s bel canto parts. She has also appeared in contemporary stage works such as Mark Adamo’s [Little Women], Tod Machover’s [Resurrection] and Jake Heggie’s [Dead Man Walking]. Joyce DiDonato is a regular guest with leading international orchestras and has worked with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Alan Gilbert and Sir Roger Norrington. She was made a member of London’s Royal Academy of Music in 2014 and has given recitals at London’s Wigmore and New York’s Carnegie Hall. In June 2012, Joyce DiDonato made her acclaimed debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker; in April 2015 she enthralled audiences as Marguerite in Hector Berlioz’s dramatic legend [La Damnation de Faust].
