Martin Heinze: a portrait

Martin Heinze came to his instrument by chance: he actually liked the jazz organ, but the music school offered him the chance to learn the double bass instead. A stroke of luck, as our portrait from the series The Berliner Philharmoniker and their instruments shows. Martin Heinze also explains why he is the only member of the orchestra’s double bass section to have opted for gut strings, and what effect they have on the sound.
