Magdalena Kožená
SopranoMezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, born in Brno in the Czech Republic, has established herself over the years since her debut in 2003 as an important associate of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
Her performances include the title roles in Bizet’s Carmen and Richard Strauss’ Rosenkavalier at the Easter Festivals in Salzburg and Baden-Baden, her contribution to the success of the staged productions of the St. Matthew and St. John Passion, and her interpretation of orchestral songs by Dvořák, Ravel and Mahler under the direction of her husband Sir Simon Rattle. Beyond the Philharmonie, Magdalena Kožená has enjoyed success with her intense performances of roles in operas by Monteverdi and Mozart, as Debussy’s Melisande, and also in the rarely performed opera Juliette by Bohuslav Martinů.
