Truls Mørk
VioloncelleNorwegian cellist Truls Mørk is an acclaimed artist who performs with the world’s leading orchestras and has been a recurring guest with the Berliner Philharmoniker since his debut in October 1992: “I have fond memories of every single time. They were wonderful, exciting artistic challenges.”
Truls Mørk received his first cello lessons from his father John. He later studied under Frans Helmerson, Heinrich Schiff and Natalia Schakowskaya. He has won the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition and the Naumburg International Competition in New York, among others, and has also been awarded the Sibelius Prize. Today he gives guest performances with the great European and North American orchestras, working with conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Manfred Honeck, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Kent Nagano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Christoph Eschenbach. Mørk, who is also in demand worldwide as a chamber musician, has also made an international name for himself as a dedicated interpreter of Contemporary music. He has premiered many works, including the cello concertos by Victoria Borisova-Ollas and Haflidi Hallgrímsson as well as Matthias Pintscher’s [Reflections on Narcissus]. He also participated in the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Concerto grosso for three cellos and orchestra, with Charles Dutoit conducting the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Truls Mørk has enjoyed great success performing Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Cello Concerto under the composer’s baton at the Royal Festival Hall, the Lincoln Center and at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
