Patricia Kopatchinskaïa
ViolonPatricia Kopatchinskaja is a violinist who conquers concert stages like a “force of nature” ([Der Tagesspiegel]) with her explosive playing. She made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in September 2014 as the soloist in Peter Eötvös’s Violin Concerto No. 2 [DoReMi], and she remains closely linked to the orchestra in the 2021/22 season as their Artist in Residence. She demonstrated her artistic versatility in a [Late Night] concert in which she not only played the violin but took on the speaking and singing parts of Schoenberg’s melodrama [Pierrot lunaire]. She also appears as a composer.
Patricia Kopatchinskaja was born in Chişinău, Moldova, into a family of musicians: her mother plays the violin, her father the cimbalom. In 1989, she moved to Vienna, where she began her music studies. Four years later, the violinist moved to Bern University of the Arts, where she completed her studies under Igor Ozim. The music world became aware of Patricia Kopatchinskaja when she won the Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition in 2000. Today, the violinist, who is particularly committed to modern and contemporary music, works with all the leading orchestras and continues to cause a sensation with her unusual interpretations. Patricia Kopatchinskaja develops staged concert formats and regularly gives recitals at renowned venues such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She has been Artist in Residence with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the SWR Sinfonieorchester, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Lucerne and Ojai festivals. She supports the Swiss children’s charity “Terre des Hommes” as a humanitarian ambassador.
